Intro to this blog and to me

Personal defense or self defense is a very individual responsibility.  Despite what those in the media may say, in those first seconds of an attack or home intrusion, the only person that will be there for your defense is you.  By all means, call 911 for assistance if you have the time or a significant other with the ability, and definitely call after the incident.  But know that despite some area's quick response time, it may not be quick enough to avert harm and injury from occurring to you or your loved ones.  Additionally, many public safety officers are admitting that they can't be everywhere all of the time.  This makes the initial responsibility of defending yourself and your family YOURS.

In this light, this blog is geared towards discussion of various topics in the self defense category.  This will be open for comments and questions, and will be a forum of no judgement.  Dissenting opinions are welcome, for how can people become educated about a topic without the open debate from all points of view.

Why do I think that I am qualified, you might ask?  With over 20 years of military service in the US Marines and US Army, I have had extensive training in personal defense and the use of various tools for this purpose.  I have also many years of training service members in the safe and proper use of standard issue firearms.  I want to bring this technical and practical knowledge to the public to increase awareness.  I am also a firearms safety and personal defense instructor in the civilian world.

So welcome, and I hope that you enjoy reading and actively engage in the discussion.
